With a background in design and a love for sewing, Penny began creating the underwear for herself as a fun hobby, without realising how much potential or desire was out there for underwear made from natural/breathable materials that were both ethical and unique. She began learning about the health benefits of natural textiles and ways to utilise them in all products without wasting resources or compromising on quality. Soon friends started placing orders and before long Sewunique the business was born.
After about 1 year, products developed to include bras, sets, loungewear and different styles of underwear; forever inspired by customers suggestions and constantly releasing new designs. Although the patterns are always evolving, one thing remains the same - Sewunique continues to handcraft all of the pieces here in Byron Bay, Australia.
In the early days, there was only one style of underwear and the fabric for the underwear was a 'surprise'. Although there are now so many other options to choose from, Sewunique has kept this quirky and fun product as a reminder of the very beginning, allowing creativity amongst the team and finding new ways to use remnant materials.
Sewunique is built upon the values of quality, inclusivity, fair production and beautiful design.
Over time the fabric choices became more refined as customers began requesting specific colours.
Offering even more designs and materials to choose from, was when things started to get very creative.
